Over the years, the nexus of the music and fashion industry has both disappointed and surprised us. Ever since the “rah rah” earworm hit the radio in 2010 and the “meat dress” became an expression, Lady Gaga has been infamous (or renowned?) for her outlandish outfits, extravagant performances, and avant-garde presence. So when this woman began strutting around New York City in a plain grey crop top and silver shorts while promoting her chart-topping October release, JOANNE, there was decided confusion: is that Lady Gaga?
What at first seemed like a defeat of fashion (was Lady Gaga finally out of ideas? Is this the end of one of the world’s longest gimmicks?) quickly developed into one of the boldest fashion statements that we have seen in recent times, especially from a woman in music.
As a female, why can’t I be a rockstar, Lady Gaga once stated in a 2009 interview and it seems like she has decided to turn her words into actions. While other artists are trying more and more to outdo one another in unexpectedly weird or surprising ways, a trend that one could credit to the woman in question herself, Lady Gaga is determined to prove that she can be as polarizing as she wants, in whichever direction she so chooses . And our favorite thing is her dedication to maintain a certain aesthetic for the promotion of her recent album, a look that is, safe to say, equal parts rockstar, equal parts Gaga. Here are our favorite outfits from Lady Gaga (can someone grab Y Fashion House one of those pink cowboy hats please!?):
